A Sunday afternoon trip to Clifton Country Park to take a look at the remains of The Wet Earth Colliery. During the return along the river Irwell we spot several portals on the opposite side of the river. After crossing the river we decided to take a closer look at these tunnel entrances. Finding one of the entrances accessible we went in to explore. It wasn't until I got back home and did a little research that I realised the tunnel was part of James Brindley's syphon system to get water up to the colliery. It was the downcast syphon area.
