In this video you mainly hear the bass and drums of this song. The ‘secret’ of this bassline is within playing the ghost note in the maingroove. On the second beat in the maingroove (for instance bar 5) you start with a ghost note on the 3rd fret of the A-string (note = C on the second half of the second beat). And than you hammer on the C to the D (marked with a bow in the transcription).
Tiran Porter mainly sticks to the basic maingroove, but he plays some variations. Especially when he goes to the Cm9 or Eb maj7 chord. Listen for instance at bars 16 and 24.
And I really like the ghost/percussive notes in the first four bars of Verse 5 (bar 69-72). And there’s a wonderful lick in the outro in bar 96!

Bass: Tiran Porter
Album: The Captain and me (1973)
Composer: Tom Johnston
Standard E-A-D-G tuning. Although I play on a 5-string bass, it’s a 4-string transcription and I play this song on the E-A-D-G strings.
