Russia says it will ‘regularly conduct’ drills with its Central Asian allies near the Afghan border.

Defence Minister, Sergei Shoigu says the practice will help ensure the security preparations in case of a potential attack.

Shoigu said the hasty withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan triggered a swift degradation of the situation.

He warned of the rise of terrorists and a surge in their activity.

The Russian defence minister said this situation requires taking appropriate measures.

The remarks came as Russia completed joint exercises on Afghan border with troops from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
