Battlefield Hardline was underrated.
If I had more time I would've made a more comprehensive video detailing everything that Battlefield 2042 downgraded from old Battlefield titles. Since around 2015 there has been a shift in DICE with a distinct lack of respect for the roots of the series for which they are making games for. EA Star Wars Battlefront was the beginning of the decline for DICE, producing games that beared little similarities to the original games from which they got their names. The irony is that Pandemic Studios' Star Wars Battlefront games were inspired by Battlefield so when we got game that was so devoid of meaningful gameplay & content and had replaced classic Battlefield/Battlefront mechanics with dumbed down simplistic, restrictive and downright insulting gameplay design this came to a big surprise to everyone. DICE would continue this trend with successive games in the Battlefront & Battlefield franchise mired by awful design and product decisions and it culminated with the disaster that was Battlefield 2042 a game so riddled with bugs, performance issues, downgraded & missing features and an identity crisis that strayed far from the Battlefield it should've been.
I wanted Battlefield 2042 to succeed with the long awaited return to a modern setting that crazy sandbox all out warfare with Rendezooks we loved from Battlefield 3&4 and the semblance of the ability to pseudo mod the game through Battlefield Portal. The hype up until the release of this game was astronomical. Never have I ever had my hopes driven so high only to have it be absolutely buried.
Cons:
-No offline mode with bots even in solo mode which requires a persistent internet connection which is prone to lag & disconnects.
-Not being able to host portal experiences due to quota being exceeded. Allow us to host our own servers then.
-The dismantling of the core DNA of battlefield replacing the traditional class system with specialists which removes all semblance of teamplay and gadget choice.
-Removal of the key features such as a scoreboard, no All chat & a server browser for All out Warfare to name a few.
-A lot of jank still present from the beta such as the inability to rebind keys, missing ui, and poor netcode, rubberbanding & hit registration.
-40-70 fps on a top of the line PC with a RTX 3080 even with DLSS enabled it is very uncharacteristic for a Frostbite title.
Pros:
-You can do a RendeZook which is really cool.
-You can launch vehicles which is really cool.
-Portal had a tonne of potential but ended up being neglected and poorly executed.
If there’s one thing DICE can learn it’s that you don’t need to reinvent the wheel every time you develop a new Battlefield game. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Stick to the pillars of what has allowed your game to survive 20 for years now.
