Welcome to our new video series Commercial Cleaning Coach, where we will answer commonly asked questions, debunk myths, and share useful tips - all in about 1 minute.
In this episode, we review the difference between cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting.
These terms are not interchangeable, and each has its own specific purpose in reducing the spread of germs. Cleaning will remove about 97% of soils and germs from a surface, but it will not KILL any germs. Sanitizers will kill 99.99% of the germs it claims to kill. Sanitizers do not kill all types of pathogens or germs. The kill claims will vary by product and can be found on the label. Even though sanitizers kill 99.99% of germs, you are still leaving behind millions of germs. The best way to kill and remove germs is with disinfectants. Disinfectants kill 100% of the viruses and bacteria listed on the product label. Disinfectants do not clean soils from surfaces. Surfaces must always be cleaned before they are disinfected because disinfectants cannot break through soils on surfaces.
