Beyond the Ivory Tower?
Associate Professor Victoria Showunmi will address diversity in higher education, relating the concept to what it means in terms of practice, structure, and educational leadership. Dr Sophie Scott-Brown will reflect on the different concepts of diversity and inclusivity, and the implications of this for 'widening participation' in higher education.

Associate Professor Victoria Showunmi has developed a national and international reputation for her work on identity and leadership. The emerging themes of are gender identity and race in the context of leadership, and the implications for the experiences of learners and educators. In the early part of her research career, she focused on the experiences of ethnic minorities in ITT, whilst latterly her research spans across two related themes: first, gender, education, leadership and empowerment, and second, young Black women’s experiences of education in the context of their well-being.
Dr Sophie Scott-Brown is a lecturer in Philosophy at UEA. Her research focuses on education, social justice and activist’s lives. She is the author of The Histories of Raphael Samuel (2017) and Colin Ward and the Art of Anarchy (2022).
