A Journey of Faith: Rev. Prabin Nayak’s Path to Priesthood
Born on October 27, 1997, in Adava, Odisha, Rev. Prabin Nayak is the fifth among six children of Ruman Nayak and Bhagya Nayak. His journey began in the serene village of Adava, under the spiritual care of the Immaculate Conception Church, Aligonda, in the Diocese of Berhampur. From the very start, Prabin’s life was imbued with a deep sense of faith, receiving the sacrament of baptism on the day of his birth—a profound beginning that symbolized his dedication to God’s call.
Early Foundations
Prabin’s early education at Adava High School, where he completed his HSC in 2011, was marked by a deep desire to grow both intellectually and spiritually. Inspired by his vocation promoter, Fr. Susanto Digal, he embarked on the path to priesthood in 2012, joining the St. Vincent’s Seminary in Dimapur. Here, over three formative years, he nurtured the seeds of his vocation, laying a solid foundation for the life ahead.
His higher studies continued at St. Clare Higher Secondary School, Kacharigaon, Dimapur, and later at the prestigious Aquinas College, Gopalpur-On-Sea, where he pursued a philosophy degree from 2016 to 2019. Alongside, he also completed his graduation through the Harihara Mardaraj Distance Education Centre, Berhampur.
Milestones in Formation
Prabin’s spiritual journey saw significant milestones:
• Good Purpose (2016): A moment of profound commitment to the path of Christ.
• Ministry of Candidacy (2019): At the St. Vincent’s Retreat Centre, Gopalpur-On-Sea, he formally stepped forward in his journey.
• Ministry of Lector (2021): Receiving the role of proclaiming the Word at Stella Maris.
• Ministry of Acolyte (2023): Entrusted with serving at the altar, at VVS, Pune.
• Definite Incorporation & Final Vows (2023): A lifelong dedication to the Vincentian mission, at St. Vincent’s Retreat Centre, Gopalpur-On-Sea.
Advanced Studies and Service
Prabin pursued theological studies at Jnana Deepa, Pune, from 2020 to 2023. He further deepened his understanding of philosophy, earning a Licentiate in Philosophy from St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangalore. His regency year (2019-2020) in Molkon, Manipur, offered him a chance to immerse himself in pastoral service, enriching his faith through direct interaction with communities.
Ordained for Service
On May 27, 2024, Prabin received the sacrament of diaconate at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Diocese of Berhampur, a key step toward priesthood. This pivotal moment prepared him for his ordination as a priest on December 28, 2024, by His Lordship Dr. Sarat Chandra Nayak at Aquinas College, Gopalpur-On-Sea.
