This is my first hunting experience. I am using a Mathews Passion Compound Bow. I didn't get much footage as I was busy myself hunting. Maybe next time I'll strap a go pro and have it filming throughout the day? For this trip, we (scott, me, Dan, Melissa too but she was so tired she slept at the house on the orchard) woke up at 3am to meet and get ready and meet up. We arrived on the Orchard at 5am. To shoot rabbits we only used our compound bows and arrows had bludgeon tips. When hitting a rabbit we try to hit only the head or neck area as to protect the meat.
For squirrels, one could use their compound bow yet we chose to use .22 pellet guns. The squirrels would rest on the rocks during the day when it heats up and didn't want to shatter arrows.
Scott shot the first rabbit of the day. Rabbit popped his head up from the hole and Scott took a quick shot. Very nice and clean.
My rabbit was invincible. 1st shot, the arrow skimmed his neck just barely, 2nd shot I hit him just about his right shoulder area and broke his left leg but he didn't go down. As he was trying to get away, Dan was able to get a clean hit to take him out.
Afterward we went quail hunting in the Laguna Mountain area meant only for archery hunting. Hiked all over and was only able to see one covey. No hits there.
Then of course, if you don't know already. If I'm in Julian, I will stop at Mom's Pies and buy a dumpling :)
