This exciting circular route near the village of Terchova in the Maly Fatra National Park, Republic of Slovakia, traverses the Upper and Lower Sections (Dolne Diery and Horne Diery) of the beautiful Janosik Gorge, taking in Malý Rozsutec (1,343 m). It involves crossing narrow bridges and climbing a variety of ladder ways and the use of chains and fixed cables. From the summit there is a very steep descent down a gully before a steady descent along forest trails to the start point at the excellent Hotel Diery (where the food and beer are fabulous). This is a tough winter route taking about 8 hours and requiring the right equipment: snowshoes for the lower gorge and forest trails and crampons above the lower gorge.
