If all 12 or so supervolcanoes on Earth erupted at once, civilization would likely collapse. The volcanoes would spew thousands of tons of ash and toxic gas into the atmosphere, which would linger for months and block out sunlight. This could set off a volcanic winter as global temperatures plunge, killing crops and leading to worldwide famine.
