HVO is a fascinating concept as it offers up to 99% cleaner driving whilst not having to buy a different car with a new fuel type.
This week we attended a press conference for Skoda and Certa's joint partnership to encourage the use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil over diesel.
At the moment, Certa offer HVO in three of their unmanned locations (Dublin, Meath & Cork) however they plan to expand this out to many more forecourts over the coming year and beyond.
To solidify the place of HVO in the market, and to give end users confidence, Skoda Ireland are backing the campaign by stating that from any car sold after mid 2021 that uses HVO fuel will not alter the warranty status. On top of this, the brand are offering up to €500 HVO vouchers for Diesel Skodas sold in March of 2024.
The price of HVO at the moment is a little more than diesel, however due to having less of a harmful impact on the environment, there's hope that the Irish Government will either reduce the taxes on HVO or provide a subsidy to encourage consumers to use it.
Regardless, we can imagine many commercial users will begin to use HVO in order to reach their carbon goals.
