Celebrating Young Talents: Meet Dr Cameron Halliday, CEO of Mantel Capture, and Winner of the Mission Innovation Net-Zero Industries Award 2024 in the young talents category for his groundbreaking research in industrial decarbonisation.
Dr Halliday’s pioneering work has led to the development of an innovative high-temperature liquid-phase carbon capture technology using molten borates. This cutting-edge solution integrates the absorber and desorber directly into the boiler, significantly enhancing thermal efficiency and reducing carbon capture and storage costs by over 50%!
Recognising the transformative potential of this innovation, Dr Halliday co-founded Mantel Capture in 2022 to commercialise the technology. With strong applicability and cost advantages, his work is paving the way for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors like steel, cement, and petrochemicals.
Dr Halliday is also a prolific innovator, holding four patents and authoring six publications on molten salt carbon capture. His achievements exemplify how academic research can drive impactful industrial solutions.
