10-19. July 2022. Italy (Italia). Apulia (Puglia) Region. Here are 10 days on the Salento peninsula (the heel of Italy's boot), mostly in the Lecce province, but also touching Taranto and Brindisi provinces to include Ceglie Messapica, Martina Franca, and Ostuni. Aside from all the Italian food, additional non-beach highlights include Monteruga Ghost Town (constructed during the fascist-era), Otranto (including the easternmost point in Italy and a bauxite mine filled with water), the landscape dotted with pagliara (dry-stone temporary shelters for farmers), the baroque city of Lecce, a wine picnic in Carmiano at Cantina Petrelli, and a Pooh tribute concert.
