Today’s topic is all about making thicker hookah smoke and over the years we have developed our own guide to being one with the clouds we’re going to share with you today. Call it the Fumari Family discount. After our guide, you’ll be saying goodbye to flavorless wispy smoke and hello to full-bodied fluffy clouds!
00:29 Use Quality Materials
While this may seem a little vague, the better your materials are the better
chance you have at getting thicker smoke and more flavor. You should
always be using a quality clay bowl and a high-caliber pipe at the least
though a durable and washable hose goes a long way here as well. Rocking a $5 thin ceramic bowl and a cheap gas station hookah you bought on a whim just isn’t going to cut it when a cloud battle is in order.
00:52 Check your connections
Think of this step like unplugging your hookah and resetting it like you would if the internet went down. There are four connection points that could be letting air in: The base to your pipe, the hose to the hose port, your purge, and your bowl connection. All these connections should have a tight-fitting grommet or part to ensure your hookah is airtight. You can even troubleshoot this step by purging while you are smoking, if you see smoke coming from anywhere that is not the purge, this seal is your weakest link.
01:19 Packing
While the other steps can place the blame on your hookah and parts, now
it’s time to own up to your own skills. Most cases of thin smoke can be traced back to packing too little or even packing too much. Packing density will depend on brand, but as a rule of thumb, you should always be packing just under the rim of your bowl. By giving your hookah tobacco the right pack and density, you should be achieving clouds thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. If you don’t know the proper packing technique for your type of leaf, check out our blog and related videos for more research. The more you know!
01:51 Heat Management
If you have a top-quality hookah setup, it’s airtight, and you have packed like a perfectionist, heat management must be your cloud stealing culprit. Using circular, quick lighting charcoal is a recipe for a bad time and even worse clouds. We strongly recommend using quality coconut charcoal and pairing them with a Heat Management Device. With this duo, you will literally see the difference. If you are using hookah foil and stuck cloudless, try adding another piece of charcoal and moving the other pieces toward the edge to prevent burning. This will help your bowl heat up more uniformly and then you can take that new coal off to balance your heat.
