Tamara Moore is a professor of engineering education and the director of the INSPIRE Research Institute for Pre-College Engineering at Purdue University. In this video, she explains what the Purdue Engineering Gift Guide is and how it can connect kids with engineering inspired gifts this holiday season. The Engineering Gift Guide is a collection of toys and gifts put together annually by researchers at Purdue that aim to introduce children to engineering in fun and exciting ways. This year, the guide focuses on microelectronics. Microelectronic components can be found in phones, earbuds, smartwatches, cars, and robots. The top three gifts listed in the 2024 guide include SOIC and SOT: The Microchips picture book, the Mochi Robotics Kit, and the Snap Circuits Arcade kit. Moore says the gifts in the guide are selected by a group of Purdue engineering professors, undergraduate researchers and tested by kids.
