Solid waste management in urban centres is considered a great challenge to environment conservation according to the National Environment Management Authority. Environment stakeholders have taken issue with the neglected solid waste and unplanned dumping sites urging for reform in county governments to designate areas for garbage collection
While launching a clean up exercise in Kiserian Town in Kajiado West Sub County, National Environment Complains Committee stated that the current environmental decay is a result of poor town planning and the situation could become a national catastrophe if not adequately addressed. The Kiserian Clean up exercise will be conducted on a monthly basis and is expected to be rolled out in 5 other sub counties in Kajiado.
