(2 Mar 2015) An army field bakery run by separatist fighters in Ukraine was distributing bread on Monday to local residents in the village of Chornukhyne.
Dozens of villagers queued in front of the Lenin statue in the town centre, where the fighters from the the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic set up a "field kitchen" usually used to feed soldiers.
Captain Protashiuk Evgenii of the Second Army Corps of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic said the bakery would stay in place for a week and could produce up to "2 tones and 900 kilograms of bread on a regular working day".
"This field bakery is here for a week now, from the next day of the liberation of Chornukhyne village. The bakery can produce 2 tones and 900 kilograms of bread on a regular working day. Today we made just as much as much we needed, no more than 500 kilograms."
Locals said they were grateful for the fresh bread and the hot meals on offer in kitchen.
Shops have been closed in Chornukhyne for more than a week and no aid has yet reached the village, despite the damage there being comparable to nearby Debaltseve.
Rebel fighters continued to salvage anything that might be of use from the abandoned live ammunition, wrecked tanks and APCs strewn across the crossroads leading to the village.
