Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was asked if claims made by Mr Lee Hsien Yang that he sought asylum protection in the UK would affect bilateral ties with the UK.
"I can't speak for the UK government and its decisions on political asylum ... these are decisions for the UK government to make," he said. But Mr Wong said Singapore has a strategic partnership with the UK and there are opportunities to strengthen the relationship further.
He reiterated that Mr Lee and his family are free to come back to Singapore and there are no legal restrictions on them.
And he added that he cannot control what Mr Lee says from abroad. "Whatever his actions, they will not distract me and my team from focusing on the core issues that are important to Singaporeans," said Mr Wong. More details: [ Ссылка ]
