My translation:
Long long ago in Ireland, before the new age,
There lived the Fianna,
Fionn;,and his son Oisín.
They had many adventures,
and many changes of heart.
But the day Oisín met Niamh
will never be forgotten.
Chorus:
Niamh Cinn Óir (Niamh of the golden hair), from Tír na nÓg (Land of the Young).
She was the most beautiful woman that young Oisín ever met.
She enticed him with beauty
she enticed him with kisses
She enticed him without a doubt
to Tír na nÓg.
Oisín was, one sunny day,
walking on the river bank.
Among the yellow flowers, and the rushes,
the vision was shown to him.
A dazzling beautiful woman,
that left the hero’s heart weak.
He was invited to Tír na nÓg,
to live there for eternity.
Chorus
A beautiful land, land of the young,
A mysterious land of dreams.
Oisín spent 300 years there,
while much in love with Niamh.
But a desire that never left him,
and that he couldn’t subdue,
was to go back to Ireland,
to see it again.
Chorus
“Don’t leave this place,” says Niamh.
“Don’t leave me, my darling”.
“If you leave Tír na nÓg
you will never return again.”
But Oisín returned to Ireland.
He had a fever burning in his heart,
and he died in front of the saint [Saint Patrick]
That was the end of his adventure.
Chorus
Tír na nÓg, OH, Tír na nÓg,
a magical noble land from long ago,
Look, see it over there,
at the horizon,
that’s where I’d like to be,
That’s Tír na nÓg,
Tír na nÓg,
Tír na nÓg.
