The number of trees lost in tropical forests in Brazil and Colombia “fell dramatically” last year, according to new analysis.
The Amazon is the largest rainforest in the world, and 60% of it is in Brazil, where tree losses were down by 39% in 2023.
Colombia also slashed their forest loss by nearly half compared to 2022.
Researchers said it is down to political action and new leaders who have prioritised the environment.
