Current U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence during the Republican National Convention on Wednesday formally accepted the Republican nomination to run once more as vice-president. He said that he joined the ticket in 2016 to “Make America Great Again” and that he's seen President Donald Trump face “relentless attacks” but get up every day to work for Americans in his opinion.
He also spoke about his family in accepting the ticket, and joked that he thinks he's his “second favourite candidate on the Trump-Pence ticket.”
The vice-president then addressed the ongoing protests happening in various cities across the U.S. related to racial injustice and police brutality - most recently in Kenosha, Wisc. He said that he and President Donald Trump support peaceful protests, but that “violence must stop” and that “rioting and violence is not peaceful.” He said they don't have to choose between supporting law enforcement or standing with their “African-American neighbours.”
