Binali Yildirim: Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey
Summary:
The continuous challenges facing the global order, today, raise many pertinent questions about the future of the world and the scope for change. Watch the welcoming speeches of Director General of TRT, Ibrahim Eren, and Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, Bekir Bozdag.
The opening session also featured a keynote speech from the current Prime Minister of Turkey, Binali Yildirim.
Ibrahim Eren emphasised the need for honest, truthful, and representative news reporting. TRT World goes above and beyond what is expected of an international news media outlet by putting the human at the centre of the story. It is a platform that endeavours to provide a voice to those who are often sidelined and forgotten by the rest of the world.
In his welcoming speech, Bekir Bozdag highlighted the importance of reflecting the truth in a world of uncertainty and lauded TRT World’s efforts at providing news when and where it happens, at the source of the world’s greatest issues, and with integrity. He mentioned many of the diseases threatening our world, such as xenophobia, Islamophobia, and racism, and how TRT World will become a common platform and a common voice against these rising, toxic trends.
Prime Minister Yıldırım called attention to Turkey's humanitarian efforts and the country’s support for the Rohingya, Somali, and Syrian refugees. He reiterated President Erdogan’s sentiments regarding the need to reform the UNSC to include more voices representative of a changing world – “the world is bigger than five.”
“We are gathered at this forum and we have prominent names among us who have come here from around the world. We have the daughter of the legendary hero Malcolm X. Malcolm X the defender of justice and liberty has a saying: if you’re not careful enough, the media will make you hate the oppressed and love the oppressor.”
