The cold open was projected on some sheets that surrounded the ring, and it was cool because it almost symbolized the curtains opening on a brand new show. And Triple H welcomed the world to a new era.
The Rock was next and he is very much a babyface again. Also, check out the new mic covers. He called out Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, and said he’s keeping an eye on Tribal Combat. Side note, commentary did mention that The Rock is the Samoan High Chief.
Tribal Combat. Solo Sikoa and Roman Reigns. This kind of felt like a standard Bloodline match now with a lot of interference and ref bumps. I did like this call back to the first tribal combat match. Tama Tonga pulling the ref out of the ring like Jimmy did to Jey. Cody Rhodes also stopped Kevin Owens from hitting a piledriver on Roman Reigns.
Roman Reigns is once again The Tribal Chief and who else but the Rock would place the Ula Fala on the shoulders of Roman Reigns?
The John Cena farewell tour has begun and he officially declared for his last Royal Rumble Match.
Rhea Ripley defeated Liv Morgan to win the Women’s World Championship. Dominik Mysterio trying to hug Rhea was pretty funny. She hit Dom with a low blow and a Riptide. And then, The American Badass, the Undertaker made his entrance and Posed with Rhea on the stage.
Jey Uso made his entrance with Travis Scott and then defeated Drew McIntyre with a roll up.
Hulk Hogan was next and he attempted to cut a babyface promo while the crowd boo’d him. Why the hell did they bring him back? Out of all people?!
And the main event, Seth Rollins vs CM Punk was great. A lot more finishers than I expected in this match, and they actually hit each other’s finishers. But the final sequence of Punk reversing the Falcon Arrow into a GTS and Seth Falling onto Punk’s shoulders for another GTS looked so cinematic. Still don’t like the way Punk hits the GTS these days, but he won the match.
Overall, there was soooooooooo much filler in this show. They constantly cut to celebrities and wrestlers in the crowd, I get that you need to fill 3 hours but it just felt like we needed more for a such a hyped up premiere, also no big returns this episode. 3*
