Martinique du Preez was diagnosed with kidney failure, in 2004, while he was still in primary school. In 2007, after several operations and an emotional struggle finding a suitable match. A kidney became available after a gunshot victim passed away. Earlier this month Martinique along with 40 other athletes represented South Africa at the World Transplant Games in Spain. The track and field athlete returned with four Medals, one of those being a gold medal in Ball Throw.
