Tthe actresses are playing the real-life women Gretchen Carlson (Kidman) and Megyn Kelly (Theron) reenacting a real-life scandal. Bombshell recounts the pre-Me Too toppling of Fox News’ former chairman and CEO Roger Ailes, who stepped down from the right-wing network in 2016 after more than 20 women – including Carlson and Kelly – accused him of sexual harassment (claims he and the company denied).
