Finland and Estonia are considering building a $15 billion dollar tunnel across the Gulf of Finland, connecting the capital cities of Helsinki and Tallinn. The tunnel, which would span 50 kilometers, would carry two rail lines, slashing the current 2 hour long ferry ride into a 30 minute train ride. It would establish a twin city metropolitan area and would link up with Rail Baltica, improving connectivity between Finland and the rest of Europe.
