The brushed AC motor consept is quite simple, and in this video I demonstrate how you can connect simple, single phase, brushed AC motors, and make them spin either way.
The idea is to connect one end of the stator coil to one of the brushes in series, and use the other end of the coil and the other brush as receptacles, and supply AC power to them. This will make the motor spin in one direction.
By simply connecting the other brush to the same coil end, and supplying power to the remaining brush and the same previous wire that comes from the stator, the motor will spin the other way.

Do be careful with AC power, it is not a toy, but it is a good tool to help us in every day activities, and always insulate the connecting points.
And bare in mind, these are single phase motors, usualy found in washing machines or vacuum cleaners. They are not three phase AC motors, so we don't have to worry about connecting them in star or delta configuration.
