For those who may not know: Westbury is situated in The south west of England in a very picturesque area called the mendip valley. It is known for having a giant picture of a White horse on a hillside which can be seen from certain trains and from many roads and bridges in the area.
The rail traffic in Westbury is mostly inter-regional passenger services and express services to London, Plymouth & Penzance.
The freight services are predominantly stone/ballast which is mined in the local quarries and is distributed to different areas. These trains are hauled by the General Motor class 59's and 66's, although some older British designed locos also visit on occasions...
Of the 5 main Freight in the UK (DB SChenker, Freightliner, Direct Rail Services, Colas & Great British Railfreight) only Direct Rail services (or DRS fro short) do not operate trains from Westbury...
There are also occasional steam trains which head from the London area to the south coast of England and have used many different engines over the years...
There are two big shunting yards and a huge array of wagons can be seen being moved/loaded/emptied etc all day... there is usually a loco or a small shunter (or switcher) which is in charge of this...
Hope you like the videos that i have been uploading recently... I would appreciate it if you would leave a message to show that you enjoyed it... Thanks
