To find shimmer lake you need terraria version atlest 1.4.4.So. first you need a world of latest version terraria,if you created a world before 1.4.4 you need to create new one to get shimmer.You can create any type of world, I’ll go in small.Now you need to find a jungle biome and in the same direction go to the ocean, right in front of the ocean you need to dig down. it may take a long time, but in 100% case you will find the shimmer lake.
be careful with the mobs there, because if your character falls into the lake, he will fall until a cave appears.
