The marketing bods told us it was going to be a 'spectacular' light show and well it looked pretty impressive. The Shard was inaugurated last night with celeb guests, Royalty and Qatari dignitaries in tow, so let's take a look.
The building - which is over 1,000 feet high - was the brainchild of famed Italian architect, Renzo Piano, and even though the inside of the building isn't finished yet, crowds of people turned out to see the centrepiece of the London Bridge Quarter development. Some got in the party mood and saw it from the River Thames by boat, while others stood at the riverside.
The skyscraper was turned purple, blue, red and gold in a ceremony which topped off an earlier unveiling of the plaque affair by the Prime Minister of Qatar (the country who's paid into the development) and Prince Andrew, the Duke of York.
There've been grumbles about how on earth developers of the 95-storey high Shard are going to succeed in selling or renting out its mammoth office space: all 26 floors of it, at a time when rents are at their most flat for 50 years. But for one night only at least -- I'm sure that was the last thing on their mind.
