July 1st marks the annual celebration of Keti Koti. Meaning ‘broken chains’ in Sranantongo, it commemorates the 1863 abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Dutch Antilles.
Keti Koti is not only a commemoration, but a celebration of the people who fought for abolition, and the rich cultures that persevered and flourished.
As the son of Surinamese parents, our founder Guillaume Philibert has instilled a strong connection to his heritage within Filling Pieces. To emphasise these ties, we have made another exclusive football jersey with which we want to celebrate the unity of the Surinamese community and the commemoration of Keti Koti. All proceeds from the sale of our new jersey will go directly towards an important surinamese charity, the Illonka Elmont Foundation.
