This audio is from the recording session by Dark Mark 4:
Steve Giles,
Carl Bush,
Clive Thorneycroft,
at SIS Studios in October 1971.
It was during this session that we laid down the other tracks that, much later, were included on 'Artefacts From The Black Museum' and have also found their way onto some CD releases of DRTE:
In The Sky,
Could Have Sworn,
Wasting Your Time
and an earlier version of Maypole.
I only appear to have the backing tracks - which would only have been lacking a main vocal. I guess it's quite possible that I sent the stereo master off for pressing and they were never returned - but I can't remember now.
I must confess that the dates have confused me somewhat as I 'Could Have Sworn' (ha-ha) that Ron had joined us by then.
I thought he was with us by the end of Summer '71 at the latest.
Obviously - that's not the case.
I can only assume - as I can't remember - that I wanted to do this session as Carl had decided he was going to leave and so probably, at that point, I may have been worried that we wouldn't find a replacement and would therefore split up.
The recording session would have been a memento of our time together.
This is the exact same reason I wanted to record Dark Round The Edges.
That's more than likely why I got the Acetates (which also include 'In The Sky') produced as well, so we each had something to keep.
Carl & Clive would have had one so, presumably, I had the other 2.
I've no idea what happened to mine now.
Clive still has his (safe and sound and locked away at a secret location - along with his DRTE) and this is where these photos came from.
