Happy #FungusFriday from this wet and wobbly #WitchesButter or #Tremellaaurantia. This is an extremely common jelly fungus, identified by its orangey yellow color, irregular brain like invaginations, growing in lobed of leafy clumps. It grows mainly on hard woods, but it’s not actually eating the wood, Tremella parasitize the Stereum hirstum mycelium in the wood. This relationship along with microscopic features helps to differentiate Tremella aurantia from other orange jellies (Dacrymyces).

I posted this on TikTok, and similar to the Turbinellus video, this video was hijacked by comments on the noise produced by flicking this mushroom. I certainly acknowledge it’s acoustic similarity to other noises, but also just appreciate the noise of a nice squishy jelly fungi dripping with rain water. This species is edible although flavorless. It can be made into nice gummies if boiled in syrup or as salad textural topping if pickled. Cheers!
