In a special edition of “Prime,” Dr. Benjamin Chavis, host and executive producer of the “Chavis Chronicles,” and Lecia Brooks, chief of staff of the Southern Poverty Law Center, joins Charles Blow. They talk about how the media exposed the Ku Klux Klan in 1921 but led to the hate group becoming more popular.
“What journalists need to be careful to do is not to show these hate groups and these bad actors in a positive light,” Brooks says. “You also have to talk about what they are, what they’re about, why they’re hate groups, that they’re anti-Black, that they’re anti-Semitic, that they’re out to overturn democracy.”
All this and more on “Prime.”
