Rivaldo's life outside football has always been very private and he doesn't prefer revealing too much to his fans and media alike. He is passionate towards helping the poor and needy, especially children, and spends most of his free time in charity work. He made sure to not let go of any opportunities coming his way and challenged every obstacle.

Rivaldo Vítor Borba Ferreira, popularly known as Rivaldo, is a former Brazilian professional footballer and the current president of Mogi Mirim Esporte Clube in Brazil. Born on 19 April 1972 in Paulista, Pernambuco, Brazil, he is best known as a free playmaking attacking midfielder as well as a second striker. The soccer star has defined what it is to be an overall player with his exceptional ability of playing with both flanks along with his extraordinary pace, vision and crossing techniques. His obstacle-filled life as a child due to poor upbringing and resulting to malnourishment-caused bowleggedness and loss of several teeth are heartbreaking. However, the soccer star followed his passion and continued his hardwork that has resulted to his success and fame today.
Also regarded as one of the most skillful and creative players of his generation, Rivaldo was renowned for his bending free kicks, overhead kicks, ball striking from distance, dribbling, passing and close ball control. He started his club career with Santa Cruz in 1991. The following year, he moved south to the state of São Paulo to play for Mogi Mirim in the second tier of Brazilian football followed by a transfer to the state capital to play for Corinthians in the first division in 1993. Rivaldo switched a number of clubs in his initial years and finally sticking to FC Barcelona in 1997 with a 4000 million pesetas (around $26 million) transfer fee. In his first season at Barcelona, Rivaldo was the second top goalscorer with 19 goals in 34 matches, as Barcelona won The Double of La Liga championship and Copa del Rey. In the 2000 - 01 season, the soccer master stunned his fans with his overhead bicycle kick, which is regarded as one of the greatest goals of his career. This secured Barcelona a place in the 2001 - 02 Champions League and Rivaldo had stated, “What happened tonight has been incredible. I dedicate the winning goal to all the players who have fought so hard all season and all the supporters who have suffered so much. I'm delighted to have made them happy with my goals.”
Rivaldo's growing success and incredible performance soon got several clubs asking him to join their club. After FC Barcelona, the star player joined reputed teams like Milan, Olympiacos, A.E.K., Bunyodkor, Mogi Mirim, São Paulo,Kabuscorp and São Caetano. In 1993, Rivaldo debuted for the Brazilian national football team and by the 1996 Summer Olympics, was selected to represent Brazil. However, the team saw a lot of loss in several matches and finally during the 2002 FIFA World Cup that was hosted in South Korea and Japan, Rivaldo was able to erase the disappointment of the previous World Cup Final defeat helping his country to win their fifth World Cup. He said “It was a great joy and honor to play alongside Ronaldo and Ronaldinho in the 2002 World Cup. Our teamwork was great and it showed through the results”.
In March 2014, almost 20 years after his terrific performance, the Brazilian icon retired from football and decided to remain as the president of Mogi Mirim in order to help run the club and to look after his son, Rivaldinho. He had also commented: “My history as a player has come to the end. With tears in my eyes today I would like to thank God, my family and all the support, the affection that I received during those 24 years as a player.” He has been honoured with a host of awards including Brazilian Football Museum Hall of Fame, Brazilian Bola de Prata, FIFA World Cup All-Star Team,Onze d'Or, Ballon d'Or, FIFA World Player of the Year, Copa América 1999 Top Scorer, UEFA Champions League Top Scorer, IFFHS World's Top Goal Scorer of the Year, FIFA 100 and Uzbek League 2009 Top Scorer.
