Protest in Bristol as Britain has been shaken by violence for more than a week, with police clashing with crowds spouting anti-immigrant and Islamophobic slogans in cities and towns from Northern Ireland to the south coast of England.
Thousands of counter protesters have gathered in Bristol as a man with a megaphone led the chants on the streets - with many holding placards reading 'refugees are welcome' and 'fascists go home'
Bristol's streets were filled with thousands of counter-protesters chanting "our streets" as police filmed the peaceful scenes.
Large crowds gathered along the city's West Street, in front of boarded-up shops, and near an immigration centre. A man holding a megaphone led the peaceful counter-protest chants, shouting "say it loud, say it clear", to which the crowd responded with "refugees are welcome here".
He also initiated the call-and-response chant of "whose street?", with the crowd echoing back "our street". Many in attendance held placards reading "refugees are welcome" and "fascists go home", while several Palestinian flags were seen being waved in the air.
