(11 Jan 2015) A passenger bus crashed into an oil tanker in southern Pakistan early on Sunday, killing 57 people with their remains charred beyond recognition, officials said.
One local resident at the crash scene said such accidents happen because the roads were not wide enough.
The bodies were taken to the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center in Karachi.
Four people were also injured, according to hospital staff.
The hospital would have to do DNA tests to identify the victims, according to Dr. Seemi Jamali, who heads the emergency section there.
Outside the hospitals, relatives were waiting in agony to identify their loved ones.
One teenager told The Associated Press that he lost his mother and uncle in the accident.
The Minister of Transportation for Sindh Province, Mir Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani, said the crash happened when the passenger bus hit an oil tanker about 50 kilometres (31 miles) outside of Karachi.
The bus was completely burned on the inside from the fire.
Such horrific traffic accidents are not uncommon in Pakistan due to reckless, untrained drivers and poor roads.
