Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the etrailer Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler, part number CT-5003-Z.Here's what our coupler looks like installed. This is an easy to use coupler, with its trigger latch. To release from your ball, you simply lift up here on the trigger and pull. You can even do it with just one finger, just like I did. This is an ideal and cost-effective solution to replace a worn out, damaged or missing coupler. It's designed to work with 2" hitch balls, and as you can see, it'll latch securely around your hitch ball very easily. This coupler is class three rated and has 5,000 pound capacity and is designed to work with 3" channel tongue trailers, such as this one here. It is a simple, bolt on installation.
You will have to provide your own hardware. It is made of a durable steel construction, and it's durable zinc finish will make it very corrosion resistant. The zinc finish on this coupler makes it an ideal solution for boat trailers, such this one.To help prevent theft and tampering, we can lock our coupler to our towing vehicle by using a 5/16" pin or pin lock through this hole here. And as long as you have a 5/8" minimum span, you will be able to secure your lock. Our coupler has the overall dimensions of 10-3/4" long from the very front of it to the very back of it. We have an overall width of 4-1/2" at the widest point, from here to here. Here we are at the front of our trailer.
You can see we've already removed our old coupler and we have a bare frame to attach our coupler to. So, we'll take our new coupler. We'll set it on the tongue. With it place and slid back as far as it can go, we'll take a 1/2" drill bit, go through our holes and we'll make marks where we need to drill out the holes. We'll do this on both sides of our coupler. With our holes marked, we'll now remove the coupler and we'll make pilot holes where we marked.
Now we'll enlarge those pilot holes to 1/2" diameter. With these two holes drilled, we'll now do the same process to the other side. Now to help prevent some rust, we'll use some spray paint around the inside edge of our holes that we drilled out. This will keep them from having rust over the course of time. Clear coat's your best option. We'll set our coupler back on top, and we'll take our hardware. We're using 1/2" diameter, 4" long bolts for this.
You have to supply your own hardware. Maybe just tap our bolts through with a tapper a little bit. Now we'll take a lock washer, place them on the bolts on the other side, and we'll top it off with a nylon lock nut. Now we'll snug down our hardware. And that completes our look at and showing you how to install the etrailer Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler, part number CT-5003-Z.
