ROLES OF THE CONTRACTOR’S QUANTITY SURVEYOR
The roles of the contractor’s quantity surveyor mirror those of a PQS and some of them include the following:-
1. Pricing of tender bills of quantities
2. Development of price quotations for construction works; where the contractor has been engaged or retained to offer construction services but there are no available bills of quantities; the QS can come up with bills of quantities that is describing the works, quantifies the works and also do the cost estimation. This helps to come up with a tender sum for doing the works.
3. Contracts managers/administrators; they ensure that the works are done as per the contract provisions thus they perform day to day running of building projects.
4. Preparation of claims; time and finances related claims
5. Liaison with the PQS on behalf of the contractor during the interim valuation of works; re-measurement of works.
6. Pricing of variations or call them extra works that come up during the construction period
7. Cash flow forecasts.
