It doesn’t get more eye catching than the Sacai x Nike LDV Waffle Daybreak Blue. This unique colourway puts plenty of respect back on iconic footwear. But this isn’t just a revival of one classic shoe, Nike have combined style cues from two old-school sneakers. The Nike Waffle and LDV come together in what could be one of the most unique hybrids of 2019.

As you’d expect from anything so unique, this is actually a collaborative release. Nike join Japanese luxury brand Sacai for a collection of clothing and footwear. Recently spotted on the catwalk, it won’t be long before this pack officially arrives.

The upper of the Sacai Waffle Daybreak consists of a lightweight mesh material that features in royal blue. A dual Swoosh sits along the sidewall whilst premium layers of suede add some refined appeal to the toe box. Like many on-trend sneakers of the day, this pair also features some deconstructed elements. Take for example, that chunky tongue which gives a subtle nod to another hyped collab. Both the LDWaffle (formerly referred to as the LDV Waffle Daybreak) and the Blazer Mid come in multiple colorways. Two colorways of each style arrive this week, with the other three LDWaffle colorways potentially getting a Fall/Winter 2019 release, although that is yet to be confirmed by Nike.

sacai debuted its Nike sneaker collab on the Spring/Summer 2019 runway in Paris, with designer Chitose Abe balancing ideas of stability and betrayal to create something unexpected. This is where the doubled-up elements come into play, including double Swooshes, laces, and tongues. The LDWaffle also features an elongated midsole.
After months of anticipation, the Sacai x Nike hybrid collection has officially released today, and as expected, the kicks sold out within minutes. If you missed your opportunity at securing the shoes, here are a few options to consider post-launch.

Chitose Abe, the founder of the Japanese luxury fashion brand Sacai, debuted the collaboration with the Swoosh during the label’s runway show at Paris Fashion Week Men’s last year. The collection consists of two unique styles that fuse four classic Nike silhouettes: the Blazer High, which combines the Blazer with the Dunk High, and the LDWaffle, which blends the Waffle Daybreak and the LDV. The sacai x Nike LDV Waffle Trainer “Varsity Blue/Varsity Red” is a unique collaboration by the Japanese high-fashion label and Nike. The first-of-its-kind design is a hybrid model that layers two vintage Nike running shoes on top of each other, the LDV and the Waffle Racer. With a mesh base, the upper features double suede panels, double Swooshes, double tongues, and optional double laces. The foam midsole follows the same concept, stacking two sole units on top of one another. This colorway features the Waffle Racer elements in Varsity Blue and silver, and the LDV panels in Varsity Red and yellow Del Sol. The limited edition sacai x Nike LDV Waffle Trainer “Varsity Blue/Varsity Red” released in spring 2019.
