A set of educational resources (e.g., booklets, games, leaflets, posters, etc) were developed to be used in class or at home and support school meal and nutrition initiatives. These contents are aimed at primary school children, their teachers, parents and school cooks and cover a variety of topics such as hydration, healthy eating, food waste and sustainability. All materials are in English with editable formats available to allow translation.
Along with such resources, several flyers, bookmarks, rulers and stickers have been created to accompany children in their daily school activities to keep them aware of the principles of a healthy diet. In addition, some videos available in Serbian on YouTube have been specifically created to be used by Serbian children. These resources have been published on a local Strength2Food website in Serbian where they are supplemented with relevant documents and analyses which can help schools for better organization of school meals and introduction of a healthier diet.
Furthermore, the possibilities of mobile applications through which support families in choosing and preparing balanced menus for children have been explored. An example of a nutritional app developed for families having children is represented by NUBI, which is the acronym for NUtrizione BImbi (literally Nutrition for Children), a mobile application currently used in Parma. Taking into account what children eat at school, the app aims at helping parents to prepare balanced meals for their children during the rest of the day to guarantee the consumption of a varied and balanced diet according to the children's age range, food seasonality and gastronomic tradition. The app offers the potentiality to be adapted and improved increasing its functionalities. Thanks to its potentialities, the tool has been used to develop some mockups named “NUBI Parma-S2F” for a hypothetical app integrating the educational resources developed within the S2F project.
