Video directed by Jesse Brodkey and produced by Temerity Films; a group of videographers who have done extensive work with Wes Andersen and Tim Burton, among many, many others, for films like "The Life Aquatic", "The Fantastic Mr. Fox", and "Coraline". Like John, this is also their first foray into music videos. "California" was filmed in San Francisco, California, primarily in North Beach, Chinatown, and the Financial District. It was filmed using super hi-def Canon C300 cameras at fast speeds and John was filmed walking and lip-syncing at one-quarter the speed of the song, and at two-point-five times faster, to create the ghostly and slightly disjointed effect.
