Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Allaah is more pleased with a person who repents before Him than with a person among you who rides in the desert. He has been (ie lost) and in this state of despair he will lie down very sad and anxious and then in this state he will suddenly see his horse standing next to him. So he took the reins of this ride and overcame his emotions with great joy and said: O son of Allah, you are my servant and I am your Lord. Let these wrong words come out of his tongue in excess of happiness. (Muslim)
