Anticipatory action reduces the impacts of disasters, saving people's lives and livelihoods. Learning, cooperation and partnerships - between practitioners, scientists and policy-makers - are essential for scaling up this approach to more countries and to cover more hazards.
This video was launched at the High-level Humanitarian Event on Anticipatory Action, held on 9 September 2021 and hosted by UNOCHA, the Federal Foreign Office in Germany and the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. It includes inputs from practitioners, scientists and policymakers around the world, who explain why learning, coordination and partnerships are important for their work on anticipatory action.
Speakers in the video include:
• Dr. Shanna McClain, Global Partnerships Manager and Resilience Officer, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
• Mr. Jânio Dambo, Early Action Coordinator, Mozambique Red Cross (CVM)
• Mr. Julio Rainimananjanahary, Technical Coordinator, Forecast-based Action Madagascar, Welthungerhilfe
• Ms. Emmah Mwangi, Doctoral Researcher, University of Sussex
