Bad Batch Episode 11 Breakdown! This show provides connective tissue between one of the all time great Clone wars arcs, "The Zillo Beast"--and the sequel trilogy, laying the groundwork for showing how the heck Palpatine returned. It's also heavily influenced by Kaiju cinema and Ridley Scott's Alien.

I keep pointing out how various episodes of this season are influenced by classic movies such as [splitscreens] Indiana jones and the last crusade, indiana jones and the temple of doom, american graffiti, westerns–and this episode draws a lot from the movie alien. If you haven't seen aliens, well, what the hell are you doing watching the bad batch, go see aliens. Alien is about a group of space truckers who investigate a new life form that ends up stalking them through their ship as it grows and mutates.
The head of the monster in this episode even bears some resemblance to the monster in alien. But more than that, the episode’s dark corridors, claustrophobic feel, and music [clips, fade] all seem like homages to the Ridley Scott sci-fi horror classic.
IN fact the crew in Alien finds the monster on a crashed ship, just like the bad batch find the zillo beast in this episode.
Doug: Hey the troopers on this ship look weird. Why are their videos glowing?
Ah Doug, that is because these are no ordinary clone troopers–these are clone commandos. We first saw them in the 2005 video game Republic Commandos. They were elite clone troopers throughout the clone wars series and we’ve seen them in the Bad Batch before. Notably, in the last scene of the first season, when they escort Nala Se to mount tantiss.
Doug: And what is that please?
So Tantiss first appeared in the original expanded universe story, Timothy Zahn’s tThrawn trilogy novels. It was a mountain filled with the emperor’s massive cloning facility. Thrawn used the cloning cylinders to create clone soldiers, and it's where Luke fought an evil clone of himself–all just great books, 10 out of 10.
Last season the Bad Batch introduced Tantiss into the new canon. After the empire stole the cloning tech from Kamino and destroyed tipoca city, they brought Nala se here. Now in a future EU story, dark empire, palpatine did return as a clone, which was later reused in the rise of skywalker. Now, that movie did very little to explain how Palaptine returned, just [dark magic, cloning, etc]. So now we’re seeing other Star Wars stories lay that groundwork. For instance, in the mandalorian, doctor pershing harvests grogu’s blood. Mof Gideon says what he wanted the blood for [to bring order]. And we see bodies in cloning tanks–all of which is probably showing the early efforts to clone Palpatine.
Doug: Yah I never really understood all that, who was Rey his granddaughter?
Well–
JJ: Actually, I can explain all of that for you.
JJ, wow! Can you explain the rise of skywalker and clones to us?
JJ: [cut to me and Doug nodding and saying “mmhmm a lot] I sure can! You see, it was easy for Palpatine to create a clone of himself, but the difficulty was creating a clone that could be force sensitive, and that he could transfer his mind into. [mm hmm, yeah, okay]
JJ: You see, clones don't have midi-Chrlians in their DA, because they’re artificial. And as well known, the force only exists because of microscopic life forms in our blood. We all love that right?
Meh, eh.
JJ: So, Rey’s dad was a clone of Palpatine but was imperfect, and that clone escaped and met Rey’s mom. So when you mix her DNA with Palpatine's you get a person that has Palpatine's blood but can also be force sensitive, and that’s why Palpatine wanted to take over her body in Rise of skywalker. Get it?
I guess, but
Doug: yeah why–
No, you go.
Doug: Why couldn't they have just stayed no one? She didn't have to be palaptine’s granddaughter to make it work. It’s like you added in a twist just to one-up last jedi.
JJ: [Stares, walks off] Man I get this shit all the time, I don’t need this today, I’m gonna go remake Jaws.
Bye JJ! Now this episode is genuinely cool as hell. Let’s get back to the breakdown.
Anyways, remember the patch on Pershing's arm? That matched the patch on the young Jango fett clones in attack of the clones, and it's what the technicians wear here. So I think this patch marks them as part of a cloning guild.
