This is a first-person account of patient abuse at Chestnut Lodge Hospital in Rockville MD from 1994-95. I was forcibly restrained to a chair for four weeks simply because I was "a danger to myself" and "needy." It was the unit psychiatrist's countertransference that led to decisions about my abusive treatment. I was force-fed. I had cardiac arrest from the meds I was given and almost died.
I eventually escaped.
