(25 Jan 1978) President Anwar Sadart of Egypt celebrated police day in Cairo. The holiday marks the resistance of Egyptian police to the burning of the Ismailia police station by the British in 1952. The Police Academy in Abbasia, near Cairo, was the site of the celebration. Sadat, his wife, and many other top officials attended. After speeches by several top police officers, Sadat presented awards to police who have served with distinction.
