Evenings are often the best times to fish lakes and ponds because fish feel less vulnerable to predators from above and many species of insects emerge just before nightfall. As the sun goes down, the wind usually calms, as well, creating a glassy surface that makes it easier for fish to see bugs and for anglers to see rises.
