Symptoms of lack of air pressure: pump will intermittently turn on without any leakage or use of taps.
Shower pumps have a bulbous ball attached to them. The function is probably to help the pump know when to turn on if there is a loss of pressure (taps turned on). Never let the air out of them, however sometimes air does escape from them and it becomes a very difficult job to reset them to factory conditions. You will find adding air with a foot pump is fine (0.8 bar) until you try to take off the nozzle. Air will hiss away frustratingly.
In this video, I go steps that I eventually found in order to best add air to achieve the desired result.
The company Stuart Turner make industry leading household water pumps of the highest quality.
I would thoroughly recommend replacing a Stuart Turner pump with another Stuart Turner pump, and not with another brand.
They're not cheap, the quality makes up for the price. Consider this: If a poorer quality pump fails, it could lead to a watery disaster, so only buy the best.
I have called them before, bought a pump over the phone, and they have delivered to me (not in the trade) a pump.
