This is my newest creation, a Lego drawing machine.
It is completely mechanical! Mechanism:
The instructions for the drawing are saved on a programming plate and are read by a mechanical reading head.
Each hole in the plate represents one instruction and its position determines which function is activated ( forward, backward, left, right, pen toggle).
The hole is detected by lowering a set of axles onto the plate, the axle over the hole drops further down than the others.
This lowers down the corresponding gear lever which turns one of the knob gears.
The motion is then distributed to drive the different parts of the plotter assembly.
After reading one instruction, the axles are risen back up again and the programming plate gets incremented by one stud, the cycle repeats.
